Usman Qadir Announces Retirement From Pakistan Cricket Months After Accusing PCB Of Injury Mismanagement | Pakistan Cricket News

Date:

Usman Qadir, 31, has announced his retirement from “Pakistan cricket”. On October 3, Usman confirmed the same in a post on X.

Unable to find a place in the Pakistan side, Usman had moved to Australia, where he played for Western Australia in 2017/18. At that point, he had harboured hopes of playing for Australia.

However, Usman moved back to Pakistan, something which his father, the legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir had always wanted his son to. Usman is the youngest of the three cricket-playing sons of Abdul Qadir.

Between 2020/21 and 2023/24, Usman played 25 T20Is, claiming 31 wickets at 18.48 while going at 7.95 an over. In his only ODI, against South Africa at Centurion in 2021, he had 1-48 from nine overs.

In May 2024, Usman accused the PCB of mismanaging his injury, for which he claimed to have “proof and screenshots and all evidence”. Less than five months after that, he announced retirement.

“Today, I am announcing my retirement from Pakistan cricket, and as I reflect on this incredible journey, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude,” posted Usman. “It has been an immense honor to represent my country, and I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.

“From unforgettable victories to the challenges we faced together, each moment has shaped my career and enriched my life. I’m deeply appreciative of the passionate fans who have always stood by me; your unwavering support has meant the world.

“As I step into this new chapter, I will be continuing my dad’s legacy, embracing both my love for cricket and the lessons he instilled in me. I carry with me the spirit of Pakistan cricket and the cherished memories we created together”.

While it is not clear what Usman specifically retired from, it can be assumed he will not play international cricket for or domestic cricket in Pakistan, or in the PSL.

It is also not clear what Usman meant by “this new chapter” either. He represented the Dolphins in the Pakistan Champions One-Day Cup in September, and has featured in the BBL, BPL, and the CPL.
