Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie could miss his team’s Serie A match against Inter Milan later this month through injury.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the American is a doubt if he has suffered a muscle strain.
Juventus coach Thiago Motta is dealing with quite a few injury-related headaches at the moment.
Against Lazio in the Bianconeri’s first match back from the break, he will certainly be without Teun Koopmeiners and Nico Gonzalez, two big summer signings.
Koopmeiners is dealing with a rib injury that he sustained against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Then, Gonzalez is also out with a muscle problem that he picked up against Leipzig.
Meanwhile, striker Arkadiusz Milik is yet to feature this season due to injury. The former Ajax, Napoli, and Marseille striker will once again be on the sidelines.
Then, there is winger Francisco Conceicao. The Portuguese will not be available for the clash with Lazio due to a red card that he picked up against Cagliari in Juventus’s last match before the international break.
Juventus Midfielder Weston McKennie A Doubt For Inter Clash
Motta will be hoping that the injury crisis lets up a bit after next weekend’s match against Lazio.
Juventus take on Stuttgart in the Champions League next week.
And then it’s the big one. The following weekend, the Bianconeri travel to Milan to face Inter in the Derby d’Italia.
Key players like Koopmeiners and Gonzalez will be hoping to return to fitness in time for that match.
However, there is yet another injury worry for Motta in the meantime.
26-year-old former Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie has been with the US national team during the break. However, he has suffered a muscle problem.
Tests will determine whether it is just a minor knock, or a muscle strain. If it is the latter, then McKennie could be on the sidelines for a few weeks.
That would certainly mean that the American would be a doubt for the match against Inter.
McKennie has featured regularly for Juventus this season.
Over the summer, there had been widespread transfer links that the 26-year-old would leave the Bianconeri.
However, McKennie remained. And coach Motta has reintegrated him into the team, to the extent that he has frequently been in the starting eleven over the first couple months of the campaign.
