Veteran Barcelona forward wants to stay at club until 2027 – report

Robert Lewandowski has been in scintillating form this season, reminding everyone of the lethal striker he was at Bayern Munich and in his early months at Barcelona.

After a less-than-expected previous season, Lewy has rediscovered his best form, scoring 19 goals in 17 games, putting him ahead of other top strikers like Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

With his contract at Barça set to expire in 2025, Lewandowski’s consistent performances this season make a contract extension almost certain, as he’s on track to trigger a clause for a one-year extension until 2026.

However, a recent report from Diario SPORT suggests Lewandowski is eyeing a more prolonged career at Barcelona.

It appears the former Borussia Dortmund frontman is aiming to stay at Barça at least until 2027.

At 36, Lewandowski remains physically sharp, and despite interest from Saudi Arabia, he’s focused on staying at the elite level of football.

The forward, therefore, has expressed a desire to renew his contract with Barcelona until 2027, which would see him stay at the club until nearly 39.

The Barcelona leadership would welcome this decision if Lewandowski continues his excellent form, as his veteran experience and leadership are invaluable to a squad filled with young talent.

However, at some point, the club have to make the tough decision of offloading the Polish international, in order to make way for someone younger.

To that end, the club have been linked with moves for Viktor Gyokeres, who has emerged as a rising star in Europe with his stellar performances for Sporting CP.
