The WA Liberal Party has announced plans to streamline the environmental approvals process to allow the industry to operate more efficiently without excessive government intervention.
During a media breakfast event this morning, State Liberal Leader Libby Mettam stated that Labor’s delays are harming jobs and investment.
“Under a government I lead, clearing that backlog of environmental approvals will be a priority from day one,” she said.
Mettam accused Premier Roger Cook of neglecting the environmental approvals system and not being serious about reforming it.

Shadow Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Environment Neil Thomson criticized the Labor Party for only implementing reforms that create a new office in the Perth CBD.
“Labor has just created more bureaucracy and done nothing to get the dirt moving,” he said.
Thomson added that if elected, the Liberal government would immediately implement their plan to streamline WA’s approval processes to harness natural resources responsibly.
“In contrast to Roger Cook’s inaction, a Liberal government I lead will be relentless about creating the right business environment to unlock new markets, and forge prosperity for future generations of West Australians,” Mettam concluded.
