In a spectacular culmination of three weekends filled with explosive cricket action, the Barrie Warriors have been crowned champions of the inaugural Super League Barrie, organized by the Barrie Arts and Sports Academy.
The league, the first of its kind in Barrie, saw 31 high-octane matches that kept cricket fans on the edge of their seats. This event has truly ignited the cricket spirit in Barrie, and it marks the beginning of an exciting future for the sport in the city.
The finals of Super League Barrie held at Cheltenham Park on Sept. 15 saw the Barrie Warriors face off against Kings 11 Barrie. After winning the toss, the Warriors elected to bat first, putting up a competitive score of 91 runs for the loss of seven wickets. In response, Kings 11 Barrie was bowled out for just 36 runs, securing a resounding victory for the Barrie Warriors.
The event received tremendous support from the local community, with passionate cricket fans cheering on their favourite teams. One spectator commented, “It’s amazing to see this level of cricket being played in Barrie. We hope to see even more of this in the future.”
One of the players echoed the excitement, saying, “This league has given players like us a great opportunity to showcase our talent here in Barrie. This is something we’ve been missing for many years.”
The presentation ceremony was graced by Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall, who congratulated the winners and all the participating teams. He shared his enthusiasm for the growing popularity of cricket in Barrie.
“It’s wonderful to witness the passion for cricket here, and I am optimistic that we will soon have a dedicated cricket ground in Barrie,” Nuttall said.
Nithin Liviero, president of Barrie Arts and Sports Academy, expressed his pride in the success of the inaugural Super League Barrie.
“This is just the beginning,” Liviero said. “Next year, we plan to come back with an even bigger and better format, allowing everyone to enjoy a longer summer full of cricket games, with even more teams competing.”
The organizers extended their heartfelt thanks to the City of Barrie, the participating teams, and the players who contributed to making this league a massive success within the community.
