The Australian batter put a fielder right behind the umpire during Queensland’s game against Western Australia
Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne, who is known for his unusual on-field antics, is one of the most entertaining cricketers to watch.
The right-handed batter is currently leading Queensland against Western Australia in the opening round of the 2024-25 Sheffield Shield.
Opting to field first, Queensland reduced Western Australia to 77/4 in Perth, but that’s when Sam Whiteman (102) and Josh Inglis (122) joined hands and put on 203 runs for the fifth wicket.
During the partnership, Labuschagne introduced himself into the attack and while bowling his second over, the right-arm medium put a fielder right behind the umpire. He then pulled his teammate by his trousers and asked him to stand right beside him while starting his run-up.
The ploy didn’t bother Inglis who simply decided to ignore the bumper tried by Labuschagne. The commentators called it a ‘brain fade’ fielding position.
Labuschagne eventually finished with figures of 2/5 in 6.2 overs. After Western Australia amassed 465 in the first innings, Queensland ended day two with 185/3 on the board. Batting at No. 3, Labuschagne scored 77 off 96 before falling to Corey Rocchiccioli.
