Watch Victor Wembanyama put up historic 42 points, 18 rebounds, but Mikal Bridges’ 41 leads Knicks to win

Date:

San Antonio Spurs v New York Knicks

This game turned into exactly what the NBA — and Knicks fans — wanted: Victor Wembanyama made history and announced himself in his first Christmas Day appearance, but when the game was on the line the superior Knicks found a way to win.

Victor Wembanyama scored 42 points with 18 rebounds in Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day — he became the first player in NBA history to record 40+ points, 15+ rebounds, 5+ made 3-pointers and 4+ blocks in a game.

And it wasn’t enough because Mikal Bridges took over in the fourth quarter and finished with 41 points (the second most a Knicks player has ever scored on Christmas Day).

The Knicks finished with the 117-114 win at home.

This was the first time since 1961 players on opposing teams scored 40+ points on Christmas Day.

Karl-Anthony Towns scored 21 for New York, while Jalen Brunson had 20 with nine assists. Jeremy Sochan added 21 points for the Spurs.
