Louisville residents might want to locate their winter coats, hats, gloves and boots, as snow is possible Thursday.
The National Weather Service stated in a Wednesday morning update that Louisville will likely see snow, but “confidence is low on impactful snow across the area.” As the storm system moves south through Michigan and Indiana, a mix of rain and snow is likely, turning to all snow sometime Thursday afternoon.
NWS meteorologist Evan Webb said the system will bring cooler air into the region with some snow but temperatures will likely warm again through the weekend.
“For Louisville specifically, it’s likely that we’ll see some snow but I do think we’ll see some melting on contact initially. We are going to struggle to accumulate a little bit,” Webb said. “It’s a situation where we are confident it’s going to snow, we’re not that confident we’ll see much accumulated.
“We’re going to stay cloudy through Friday but by Saturday we may start to see it clear up,” he said. “Those clouds are going to start to scatter out from west to east and the sun may make an appearance again on Saturday. It does warm back up over the weekend.”

Will it snow in Louisville?
The NWS of Louisville predicts light rain with a mix of snow Thursday morning in Southern Indiana and Kentucky, primarily north of Interstate 64, with “a changeover to all snow sometime in the afternoon.” Temperatures will remain above freezing through Thursday into Friday morning, with wind gusts of 30 to 35 mph likely Thursday.
Predictions of snow include a 30-50% chance of an inch or more east of Interstate 75 and north of I-64, with more snow likely in the broader Cincinnati area. Areas further west and south will generally be less than an inch to near a trace. “While confidence is high on people experiencing snow,” with over an inch to 2 inches possible as locals head north towards Ohio, its impact is expected to be less severe.
Webb said winds are also something to be wary of, with it getting “pretty gusty.”
“Gusty winds of 30 to 35 mph tomorrow when we’ve got possible light snow showers in the area, so anytime you combine wind and snow, that can blow the snow around and lower the visibility more,” Webb said. “That could be an issue at times, just low visibility and falling snow and the pretty gusty winds that we’ll have. It’ll be pretty breezy through the day tomorrow and still fairly breezy Friday.”
