Will one of Manchester City’s injured players return this weekend?

Manchester City have played their way through an injury crisis in recent weeks. There has appeared to be light at the end of the tunnel with the returns of Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku from injury. But could another one of Manchester City’s injured players return this weekend? The champions face Brighton at the Amex Stadium this weekend. It does appear that another one of Manchester City’s injured players could have a chance to return to Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Jack Grealish has been out injured since his team’s 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. He has missed City’s past 5 matches with an unspecified injury. But eyebrows were raised when Grealish was called up to England’s squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches. England manager Lee Carsley has revealed that Grealish has returned to Manchester City training in recent days. In an interview relayed by the Mirror, Lee Carsley explained why Jack Grealish was selected in England’s squad. He told the media: “Jack’s been training at City for the last couple of days. So we’re hoping that we’ll assess him when he comes into camp. Jack is in the same position as maybe four or five other players that there’s question marks over whether they’re going to be involved or not. We try and give them as long as we can.

A further update on the condition of Jack Grealish is expected when Pep Guardiola fronts the media for his pre-game press conference ahead City’s clash with Brighton. If Grealish has returned to training it would indicate that he is over the injury which has seen him miss Manchester City’s past 5 games. That would be good news for City as they have missed the England international. Grealish has a vital role to play for his team and they have missed his ability going forward and his underrated ability to track back defensively. While other players get the headlines Jack Grealish does a lot of the work that goes unnoticed. But he is an integral part of the world champions squad.

The hope is that Jack Grealish can return to the Manchester City squad sooner rather than later. The update from England manager Lee Carsley does give the impression that Grealish is close to a return. Whether or not that’s this weekend remains to be seen.
