Women’s Basketball Non-Conference Schedule Announced Tuesday Afternoon – University of Texas Arlington Athletics

Date:

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women’s basketball team announced their non-conference schedule, presented by Under Armour, which features 11 games, four at home and seven on the road, highlighted by five teams who saw postseason action in 2023-24.

This year continues a trend for the Lady Mavs and playing a challenging non-conference schedule, including five games against power four opponents.

To start off the year, the Lady Mavs will travel to Tucson on Monday, Nov. 4, to take on the Arizona Wildcats, who make the move to the Big 12 this season. Arizona is coming off an 18-16 campaign that saw them reach their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament as well as win their fourth straight opening game of the tournament after defeating Auburn 69-59 in the First Four. This will be the third overall meeting between the two programs, with the last time coming back in December 2022 when the 16th ranked Wildcats visited the College Park Center.

UTA’s home opener pits the Lady Mavs against Arlington Baptist on Thursday, Nov. 7. This will be the first-ever match-up between the two schools despite being located mere miles from one another.

UTA will then hit the road for the remainder of November, with their next five contests happening away from the friendly confines of the CPC.

On Sunday, Nov. 10, UTA will take on Louisiana Tech in the second year of the WAC/Conference USA Challenge. The Lady Techsters finished 14-19 a season ago with an impressive 9-5 record at home. This will be the 13th overall matchup between the two programs.

The Lady Mavs travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas on Thursday, Nov. 14, to battle the Razorbacks for the ninth time in program history and the first time since 2018. Arkansas is coming off an 18-15 season and a trip to the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT). The Razorbacks held a winning record at home, going 10-6 for the year.

UTA will be back in Texas on Monday, Nov. 18, for a game at Texas A&M – Commerce. The Lions are coming off a 15-16 campaign and a trip to the Southland Conference semifinals where they fell to champion Lamar. The Lady Mavs currently hold a 12-game win streak over the Lions and a 12-2 overall record.

On Sunday, Nov. 24, the Lady Mavs will travel to Indiana for the first time as they are set to battle Purdue. It will be head coach Shereka Wright‘s first time back in West Lafayette, where she had a storied career for the Boilermakers, and will be coaching against her former Purdue teammate Katie Gearlds. Purdue went 15-19 last season and made the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

Wrapping up the five-game road trip, UTA will make the short drive up Interstate 30 to Dallas to battle SMU on Friday, Nov. 29. The Mustangs are now a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) after an 11-year stint in The American. SMU went 14-16 this past season. The Lady Mavs lead the all-time series that dates back to 1973, 24-17. UTA is currently riding a four-game win streak over the Mustangs, with their last matchup coming back in 2019 where the Lady Mavs won 51-46.

The Lady Mavs return home for a two-game stint that begins on Wednesday, Dec. 4, with another Big 12 opponent, the University of Houston. This will be the 14th overall meeting between the two, with UTA claiming the last three, including a 67-64 thriller back in December of 2022.

The final game of the WAC/Conference USA Challenge for the Lady Mavs welcomes Florida International to Arlington on Monday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m. central time. FIU is coming off an impressive 21-12 campaign which saw them go 7-5 on the road and make the WNIT. This will be just the second time the two programs have squared off against one another.

The final road non-conference game for the Lady Mavs has them travelling to San Antonio on Thursday, Dec. 19, to take on the Roadrunners of UTSA. This will be the second time in as many seasons the two teams meet, with the Roadrunners getting the better of the Lady Mavs a season ago 70-66 inside the CPC. The Roadrunners made the WNIT this past season and had a stout 10-4 record at home.

Wrapping up the non-conference slate and the 2024 calendar year, UTA welcomes NAIA member Wiley to the College Park Center on Monday, Dec. 30. This will be the first ever time the two programs have faced off.

Tip times and broadcast information are expected to be released in the coming weeks. UTA season-ticket deposits are currently underway with just a one-time payment of $50 to reserve a seat for the 2024-25 campaign. That payment guarantees a seat and will be applied to the total ticket purchase amount later this year. Single-game tickets will be available in the coming months.
