RIVERDALE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers women’s basketball program (1-1) open their 2024-25 home schedule on Thursday, November 14 inside Draddy Gymnasium, beginning with the LIU Sharks. Followed by a battle against the Hofstra Pride, and concluding on Sunday with the Fordham Rams next Wednesday evening.
Scouting the Opposition:
LIU Sharks:
- LIU is led by Head Coach, Rene Haynes, who is in her fifth year at the helm of the Sharks program.
- The Sharks fell in their season opener to Lehigh by a score of 83-59 on Monday, November 4.
- On Tuesday, LIU faced the Rider Broncs inside the Steinberg Wellness Center, where they suffered a 66-54 setback.
- Sophomore guard Janessa Williams leads the team averaging 11.8 points-per-game, and pacing the team with 47 points overall.
- Graduate Student Estie Varga begins her second season on Fulton Street, after an undergraduate tenure at now-defunct St. Francis Brooklyn, the only other Shark to start in all four contests this season.
Hofstra Pride:
- Hofstra is led by Head Coach Danielle Santos Atkinson, who begins her sixth season at the helm of the Pride program.
- The Pride fell in their season opener to Sacred Heart on Long Island, by a score of 63-58 on Monday, November 4.
- Most recently, the Pride defeated the Yale Bulldogs, out of the Ivy League, by a double-digit margin, 75-61.
- Leading the charge on the score-sheet is Junior guard Chloe Sterling, who has tallied double-digit points in the first three games of the 2024-25 campaign.
Fordham Rams:
- Fordham is led by Head Coach Bridgette Mitchell, who begins her second season on Rose Hill.
- On Tuesday, Fordham visited South Orange, NJ to take on the Seton Hall Pirates, and suffered a 67-44 setback against Tony Bozella’s team.
- The Rams opened their 2024-25 season with a Division II opponent in the Adelphi Panthers, and fell by a score of 58-50.
- Fordham sports seven different players that have scored double-digit points on the season.
- Leading the charge for the Rams offensively, is junior guard Chae Harris, averaging 9.7 points-per-game through three games.
