Mark Nicholas wanted to know about the time period India can allow Rishabh Pant to play Test cricket the way he wants. He commented after Pant played a reckless shot to gift his wicket, leaving the visiting team in trouble. His habit of playing for the gallery has impacted his career and despite getting hit on previous delivery, the southpaw went for another glory shot. His dismissal once again highlighted the drawback of playing over aggressively.
Sunil Gavaskar is not convinced with Pant’s batting position as he is not learning form his mistakes.
“You can’t be successful in Test cricket by going ariel. If you think that you can only score runs by playing big shots, you are wrong. You should be ready to play along the ground and go for singles and doubles. He played a terrible shot to gift his wicket. His conversation rate is not good in Test cricket.
“Pant should be batting lower down the order and not No.5 if he knows just one way of scoring runs,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Nicholas agreed with Gavaskar and questioned Pant”s place in the team. Former India player MSK Prasad was trying to defend the wicker-keeper batter when Mark gave him a brutal reply. “How long can India allow Rishabh Pant to bat the way he bats? This guys his supremely talented and we have seen what he can do with the bat but there is a need to bat cautiously when you are trying to safe a match for your country,” he said.
Prasad realised that he was wrong and agreed to what Mark Nicholas said.
