Zack Kent leads Wabash Valley Classic after two rounds

Date:

Once a wild first two rounds of golf concluded Sunday evening at Forest Park Golf Course in Brazil, Zack Kent held the overall lead in the seventh annual Wabash Valley Classic men’s tournament.

Rainy weather disrupted Sunday’s round, but play continued.

Kent shot a 66 on Sunday at Forest Park after carding a 70 in Saturday’s first round at Geneva Hills in Clinton for a two-day total of 136.

Chris DeHart stands in second place at 137, powered by a 63 on Sunday in Brazil. Mike Ball is in third place at 138, following a 68 on Sunday, while Doug McDonald is fourth at 139 after also shooting a 68 at Forest Park. First-round leader John Paul “J.P.” Kanizer is tied for fifth at 140, with Troy Farris.

The final two rounds of competition lie ahead. Rea Park will be the site for Round 3 on Saturday. Next Sunday’s final round will be played at Hulman Links.

The Classic’s championship flight finished up Sunday evening. Tournament organizer Eddie Kanizer of the Wabash Valley Golf Association said it was a wild 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday, with the unpredictable weather that was incoming. The WVGA crew decided to just roll with the weather, and try to get the second round done, come what may.

“For the majority of the day, we dodged the rain,” Kanizer said. “I’m thankful for that.”

With this Saturday’s third round at Rea Park, Kanizer said the tournament’s flights and tee times will likely be distributed by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

“We’ll rock and roll from there,” Kanizer said.

Kanizer likes that the tournament format involves four different courses, requiring four different styles of play.

“To me, it’s a challenge to kind of adapt your game to what course you’re going to, because each one of the four requires something a little different,” Kanizer said.
