Zanesville man dies after being struck on U.S. 40; troopers seek driver who fled scene

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash from 9:21 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 40, near Milepost 2 in Hopewell Township.

The post in a press release said Melvin Fields, 63, of Zanesville, was walking in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 40 when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. The vehicle fled the scene.

The post is asking for public assistance on any information regarding the incident. Being sought is a pearl white 2013 GMC with damage to the left front headlight and fog light assembly. The post can be called at 740-453-0541.
