Inter extended their undefeated run tonight with a comfortable yet unconvincing 2-0 win over newly-promoted Como.
Scorers: Augusto 48′, Thuram 90+2′
Despite Como’s win last weekend against Roma, and solid performances in defeats against Napoli and Fiorentina earlier this season, Fàbregas’ men were unable to take anything off Inzaghi’s Inter, who secured all three points in front of home support in Lombardy.
Possession dominance aside, it was a rather turgid first half from both sides, Inter specifically, as the Nerazzurri struggled to put Como to the sword in the opening 45 minutes.
Denzel Dumfries probably should have put the league holders out in front in the 32nd minute before rather than blazing his effort over the bar from inside the box.
Inter would finally break the frustrating deadlock just three minutes after the break thanks to a header from Carlos Augusto after an inch-perfect cross from Hakan Çalhanoğlu found the Brazilain to head past Pepe Reina.
That goal seemed to spring the Scudetto holders into action, with Inter much-improved in the opening minutes of the second stanza while looking good value for a second goal on the night.
A second strike finally arrived in the second minute of added time thanks to a thunderous close-range effort from French international Marcus Thuram, who moved level with Mateo Retegui at the top of the goal chart.
With this, Inter take total control of third in the Serie A table, just a point adrift of Napoli, and three points behind pace-setters Atalanta.
