🚨 Milan edge out Inter in end-to-end derby della Madonnina

Scorers: DiMarco 28′; Pulisic 10′, Gabbia 86′

Milan began the game on the front foot, with the change of formation catching Inter out and the Rossoneri taking full advantage. After just 10 minutes, Christian Pulisic poked his side into the lead after a mazy dribble, which left several Inter players in his wake.

However, the Scudetto holders began to exercise some control, and found parity just before the half hour mark when Lautaro Martinez played in Federico DiMarco, with the wing-back firing low into the far corner.

Back on level terms, Inter began to dominate proceedings, and Mike Maignan was at full stretch to deny Marcus Thuram five minutes before the break. The Rossoneri nearly retook the lead just after the interval, with Yann Sommer forced to tip a header from Rafael Leao over the crossbar.

Though Inter continued to see most of the ball, Milan went close again just after the hour mark when Tijjani Reijnders saw his effort palmed behind by Sommer.

From the corner, Lautaro Martinez was judged to have handled the ball, only for a VAR review to overturn the penalty and dash Milan’s hopes of taking the lead.

The Argentine nearly made a telling impact at the other end minutes later, but Maignan was in the way. Not to be cowed, Milan broke and forced yet another save out of Sommer as the two sides pressed for a winner.

Chances continued to fall Milan’s way, with Tammy Abraham wasting a glorious opportunity to hand his new side the lead. But with just two minutes remaining, Matteo Gabbia rose highest to nod home a free kick, and hand a deserved three points to Milan, which may just keep Paulo Fonseca in a job.
