The preseason is winding down and teams are closing in on final cuts. At this point, there are a number of players around the league being placed on waivers and returning to the AHL. The Chicago Blackhawks have placed a handful of players there themselves. As for former Blackhawks, a couple have been placed on waivers to kick off October.
The pair of former Blackhawks that were cut from their teams include Reese Johnson and Collin Delia.

Johnson was in Chicago’s organization last season and played his entire professional career with the Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs. The undrafted forward played exclusively on the Blackhawks last season, getting into 42 games. He scored two goals and recorded five points, but with the injuries the team was dealing with, he got into more games than initially expected.
He finds himself in the Minnesota Wild organization now on a one-year, league minimum deal ($775,000). Considering he’s played over 140 games in the NHL, that experience should help him be one of the first called up to the NHL if the Wild need bodies this season.
The other former member of the Blackhawks that was placed on waivers today was Collin Delia. Unlike Johnson, Delia hasn’t played with Chicago since 2021-22. The undrafted goalie spent his first five professional seasons with the Blackhawks, playing for their ECHL affiliate, Rockford, and Chicago.
Now with the Edmonton Oilers, he’s a depth piece in net that probably won’t see any NHL playing time. His last taste of NHL action came in 2022-23 with the Vancouver Canucks.
Another name the Blackhawks were once associated with is Madison Bowey. He spent the 2020-21 season in the Blackhawks organization, but returned to North America after playing his last three seasons in the KHL. While not being placed on waivers to start October, he was released from his professional tryout and returned to the New York Rangers’ AHL team, Hartford.
