Two motorists died Saturday morning in a traffic collision that’s led to a partial road closure in Desert Hot Springs, authorities said.
Authorities received a call at 6:15 a.m. regarding a traffic collision, Desert Hot Springs Deputy Police Chief Steven Shaw told The Desert Sun.
It appeared that one vehicle traveling northbound on Palm Drive swerved and collided with a vehicle traveling southbound. The two cars collided head-on, and both drivers were found deceased at the scene, Shaw said.
The drivers’ names will not be released at this time, but they are identified as an adult male and adult female. There were no passengers in the vehicles.
Palm Drive is closed from Dillion Road to Varner Road, according to a social media post from the Desert Hot Springs Police Department. Police are asking motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Traffic entering the city on Palm Drive will be rerouted to Varner Road, and residents are recommended to use Indian Canyon to enter and exit the city to avoid traffic, according to the social media post.
Shaw said the road closure will likely continue for three hours.
