The team from the land Down Under is getting paid.
Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC won the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship on Sunday, shooting 11 under at Maridoe Golf Club outside of Dallas to win the team title. Ripper GC finished three shots in front of Iron Heads GC, the 13th seed heading into the Team Championship, and 4Aces, the 2022 team champions. Legion XIII placed fourth.
All four scores counted in Sunday’s final round, which is different from LIV’s regular-season events where the lowest score is dropped each day. The semifinal winners competed for the top-four places (Tier 1), while teams to lose on Saturday competed for places 5-8 (Tier 2), with Friday’s losers going for places 9-12 (Tier 3).
Team prize money goes back to the team at LIV events. In the Team Championship, the teams keep 60 percent and each player takes home 10 percent.
Here’s how much money each team earned this week near Dallas.
Ripper GC — $14 million
All four Ripper GC players shot under par on Sunday, but it was captain Cameron Smith leading the way with a 4-under 68. Lucas Herbert shot 3 under while Marc Leishman and Matt Jones were 2 under.
Iron Heads GC, 4Aces — $7 million
Iron Heads GC came into the event as the worst team following the regular season, yet Kevin Na’s team held the lead with a couple holes left and managed a second-place finish after massive upsets in match play.
Legion XIII — $4 million
Legion XIII got into the championship without its captain, Jon Rahm, who withdrew because of flu-like symptoms ahead of Saturday’s semifinals. On Sunday, however, it was Tyrrell Hatton carrying the torch.
Stinger GC — $3.25 million
Branden Grace is being relegated after a poor regular season, but he shot the lowest round of anyone Sunday, a 7-under 65.
Fireballs GC — $3 million
Sergio Garcia’s 6-under 66 led the way for the Fireballs.
Crushers GC, HyFlyers GC — $2.625 million
Last year’s champions, Crushers GC, was upset in the semifinals and struggled Sunday, tying for last in its pod.
Majesticks GC — $2 million
Sam Horsfield, the one non-captain on the Majesticks, had the lowest score in stroke play.
Torque GC — $1.65 million
Joaquin Niemann had an excellent regular season, but Torque was a bit of a disappointment at the Team Championship.
Cleeks GC — $1.3 million
Richard Bland and Martin Kaymer each shot 2 under for the Cleeks.
RangeGoats GC — $950,000
Could this have been Bubba’s last round competing for LIV Golf? Time will tell.
Smash GC— $600,000
Brooks Koepka had the worst score of the day by two shots, an 80. Disinterested after an early upset? Probably.
