The 2024 Presidents Cup will be celebrating a milestone.
This biennial team competition pitting the best golfers from the United States against the best golfers from around the world, modeled after the U.S. vs. Europe format at the Ryder Cup, began 30 years ago. Since then, it has occupied a regular spot on the golf calendar and featured plenty of big names as both players and captains.
This year’s event is being held at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada, which also hosted the 2007 Presidents Cup. The United States has lost to the International Team just once over 14 previous competitions. The 2003 Presidents Cup ended in a tie.
This year, the United States team is led by captain Jim Furyk and will be highlighted by Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, ranked No. 1 and 2 in the world, respectively. Keegan Bradley, the U.S. captain at the 2025 Ryder Cup, is also playing for the United States this week and serving as an assistant captain under Furyk.
The international team is captained by Canadian Mike Weir and will have former major champions like Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott and Jason Day on its roster this week. South Koreans Sunjae Im and Tom Kim are also ranked among the top 25 in the world ahead of this year’s Presidents Cup.
