PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon Coast will be seen on the national stage Sunday evening, as “60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker will be seen traveling to the infamous “Graveyard of the Pacific.”
According to Oregon State Parks, the “Graveyard” is a stretch of the Pacific Northwest coast starting from around Tillamook Bay in the south, extending north past the Columbia Bar, up the rocky western coast of Vancouver Island all the way to Cape Scott.

Since 1792, around 2,000 ships have sunk in the area, including the Peter Iredale, whose wreck remains accessible to the public near Fort Stevens in Warrenton.
Whitaker is set to travel to the “Graveyard” at the mouth of the Columbia River to follow the training of members of the U.S. Coast Guard.
These trainees aim to graduate from the National Motor Lifeboat School and earn the title of certified Surfmen.
The episode will air Sunday at 7 p.m. PST on CBS.
