Manchester United will host Brentford tomorrow as the Premier League resumes after the October international break.
The Red Devils have lost Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount to injuries. Manuel Ugarte’s involvement is also uncertain after he picked up an injury in the 0-0 draw against Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier.
Erik ten Hag has three senior midfielders available – Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.
The trio is expected to start against Brentford.
Casemiro last started in the Premier League in the 3-0 humiliating loss to Liverpool on 1st September.
He made two critical errors that directly contributed to goals for the Merseyside club in the first half.
He lost ball possession 14 times and won only 50% of his duels.
His shocking display forced Ten Hag to take him off for 20-year-old Toby Collyer at half-time.
Since then, United have played four league games but he has featured for only 53 minutes.
Casemiro enjoyed a fine pre-season and put on decent showings against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of the season.
However, his horror display against Liverpool forced United to sign another holding midfielder.
The Brazil international was also linked with a late move to Turkey but he stayed put.
He has struggled to deal with the directness of the English top flight.
His tendency to dive into tackles to halt attacks has left gaps in defence that opponents can exploit.
United signed him for a deal of around £60 million from Real Madrid in 2022.
Casemiro is among the club’s highest earners and fans expect him to take more responsibility on the pitch.
The Brentford clash will be another opportunity for the midfielder to reclaim his starting spot.
