Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega to receive first-ever Germany national team call-up this month

Stefan Ortega is set to be called-up to the Germany national team for the first time in his career this month, according to reports.

The 32-year-old has consistently had his eye on the next step in his career, with his goal of becoming Manchester City’s number one between the sticks accompanying a senior call-up to the Germany national team.

Speaking during the last international break on missing out on a place within the Germany set-up, Ortega explained, “He [Julian Nagelsmann] made a decision. You accept this, respect it.”

The Manchester City shot-stopper continued, “All I can do is keep collecting arguments so I might be invited. But there are pros and cons for both. We haven’t spoken, that’s okay too.”

There have been claims in various quarters that Ortega’s ongoing omission from the national team squad may force him to seek challenges away from Manchester City, to further prove himself through consistent minutes.

However, a fresh turn of events ahead of the start of the November international break is likely to bring a major career achievement for the former Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper, who continues to be held in the highest-regard at the Etihad Stadium.

According to the information of BILD’s Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl, Manchester City’s back-up choice goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno will receive his first senior call-up to the Germany national team this month.

Germany face two contests across the UEFA Nations League later in November as they look to further solidify their place at the top of League A, Group 3 with one home match and one away in the coming weeks.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side face a home contest against Bosnia & Herzegovina at Europa-Park-Stadion on November 16 before travelling to the Ferenc Puskas Stadium in Budapest for a meeting with Hungary on November 19.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
