Jets’ Garrett Wilson named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after two-TD game against Texans

Date:

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after his incredible performance in the Jets’ Thursday Night Football win over the Texans.

After Gang Green’s offense failed to get much of anything going against the Houston defense during the opening two quarters of the contest, it was Wilson who helped spark them in a terrific second-half turnaround.

Aaron Rodgers connected with the young star receiver on the 11th play of the opening drive of the third quarter for a pretty one-handed 21-yard touchdown reception to finally get them on the board.

It was certainly a highlight-worthy snag and changed the momentum, but it was outdone shortly after.

With the Jets already in field goal range and facing a third-and-long situation on their very next drive, Rodgers heaved a deep shot down the field, which Wilson somehow snagged again with one hand in what figures to go down as one of the best catches of all time.

It was initially called an incomplete pass on the field, but interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich decided to throw the challenge flag, and after a quick review it was ruled that Wilson’s shin came down in bounds and he pulled off the incredible go-ahead score.

New York, of course, went on to snap their four-game losing streak and the youngster finished with nine receptions for 90 yards and two scores.
