Hampshire cricket: Chris Wood to captain Hampshire at Global Super League

Date:

Hampshire club captain James Vince is set to miss the Hawks’ participation in the Global Super League (GSL) with Chris Wood taking up the role for the tournament.

The club are one of five sides heading to Guyana to take part in the inaugural GSL in late November.

Hampshire say Vince is contracted to play for Delhi Bulls in the Abu Dhabi T10 competition, which runs from 21 November to 2 December.

In his absence, the club’s all-time leading T20 wicket-taker Wood will step up to take over the captaincy as they travel to South America.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out to Guyana and captaining the team,” said Wood.

“I had one game of it a few years ago, and it’s a great privilege.”

With 191 scalps to his name, Wood is the fourth-leading wicket-taker in Vitality Blast history.

The GSL reportedly has a prize pot of $1million (£764,000) and will be South America’s first stand-alone cricket event.

All matches will take place at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, which can hold 20,000 people.

The contest, involving five teams from five different countries, will take place from 26 November to 7 December.
