81 touches, four key passes: 23y/o Rangers ace absolutely outstanding v Olympiakos – View

Rangers secured a brilliant result away from Ibrox as they drew 1-1 against Greek side Olympiakos on Thursday (7 November) in the Europa League.

The Gers came from behind to secure an important point, and Philippe Clement will be really pleased with that effort.

It is not easy to get a good result against a tough opponent in a hostile environment.

Rangers were strong on the counter, and defensively they were really solid. While they didn’t completely open up to win the game, getting a point away in Greece will be seen as a very good result.

Cyriel Dessers equalised for the Bears with a fantastic goal after Ayoub El Kaabi gave them the lead in the second half.

Vaclav Cerny was also brilliant on the night, but one player who was simply outstanding was Nicolas Raskin.

Nicolas Raskin gave everything on the pitch

The 23-year-old midfielder was super-busy in the middle of the park. He made 81 touches and played out 55 passes, managing a 75% accuracy rate.

He has put in a terrific defensive shift, making seven tackles and four interceptions. He also made one clearance and had one blocked shot.

He committed the most fouls (five) out of any player on the pitch and won three aerial duels and eight ground duels.

While he lost possession 19 times, he made four key passes during the game.

The Belgium midfielder has managed 11 appearances this season for Rangers, and Clement should be very happy with his fantastic allround performance.

Despite their struggles in the league, the Gers have done extremely well in European competitions away from home. They are unbeaten in their last five away matches in the Europa League.

Under Clement, Rangers have shown they can come up with occasional strong performances, but the biggest challenge for them now is to do it consistently.

Clement will feel that Rangers probably should have won the game, but Dessers’ lack of conviction, when handed clear-cut chances, proved to be costly once again.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are close to appointing their next CEO.
