Lady Vols basketball vs UT Martin: Final score, Ruby Whitehorn logs double-double

Date:

Lady Vols basketball is off to a winning start in the Kim Caldwell era.

Tennessee notched its second straight win to open the season, beating UT Martin 90-50 on Thursday at Food City Center.

Ruby Whitehorn led the Lady Vols in scoring and had a double-double by halftime. She ended the night with 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting with 14 rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Tennessee struggled at times with transition defense in the third quarter when UTM scored 17 points, the most it scored in a single quarter. But the Lady Vols’ defensive pressure overall was too much for UTM, which committed 31 turnovers. Tennessee scored 48 points off turnovers.

The Lady Vols cleaned up their rebounding, though, and ended up outrebounding UTM 53-28 and scored 32 second-chance points.

Jewel Spear led the Lady Vols in 3-point shooting once again, going 3-for-9 from deep for 13 points on the night.
