Ian Botham survives fall into crocodile and shark-infested waters as Merv Hughes saves the day

Date:

Botham, who is now 68 and has been the UK’s trade envoy to Australia since 2020 through his position in the House of Lords, got his flip-flops caught on a rope and tumbled into the Moyle River, which is home to plenty of crocodiles, as well as bull sharks, who feed on anything the crocodiles leave behind.

The legendary England all-rounder was left with heavy bruising on his torso having hit the boat on his way into the water. He was helped out by Hughes, and joked that he was now cricket’s answer to Crocodile Dundee, the 1980s Paul Hogan character.
