‘Why can’t I’ – Aston Villa ace makes strong admission after what he saw young players did

Aston Villa ace Jacob Ramsey is one of the many players enjoying a terrific 2024/25 campaign under manager Unai Emery. The 23-year-old has featured in nine Premier League games this season, providing two assists.

Ramsey has also been an integral part of their UEFA Champions League campaign, where the Villains currently sit in one of the automatic qualification slots.

The Birmingham-born starlet has already set his sight on bigger targets that would delight his Spanish boss. Speaking to Stadium Astro, Ramsey discussed his personal goals and so much more.

Ramsey said (via Stadium Astro): “Personal goals? I think the national team.” “Obviously, my old under-21 coach has been interim for the seniors and he’s brought a lot of young players up.

“When I saw that transition, I thought to myself if these players I played with from the 2023 European Championship have got called up, why can’t I?”

England interim boss Lee Carsley recently called up some new faces for their November Nations League games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.

Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall got his first call, and so did Taylor Harwood-Bellis of Southampton, who captained Ramsey and co at the Euros. Unfortunately, the Villa man was not on the list.

The Villa academy graduate needs to bide his time and keep strutting his stuff for Emery’s side, and he might just get the call to represent the national team under incoming permanent boss Thomas Tuchel.

The Three Lions have massive competition for space through the middle with Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Kobbie Mainoo, and Adam Wharton contending for playing time. Ramsey will need to bring his a-game in the coming games to have a chance during the next round of internationals in March 2025.

Aston Villa travel to Merseyside to take on Premier League table-toppers Liverpool, and Ramsey will be eyeing a place in the first team as they look to prove their top four credentials against the seemingly unstoppable Reds.
