Sneaker Store Among Properties Looted in Los Angeles After World Series Win

A string of looting in Los Angeles plagued the city on Wednesday evening in the wake of the Dodgers’ World Series victory.

According to posts on social media from the Los Angeles Police Department, “several businesses” were looted, including what appeared to be a store that sells Nike product, according to a video retweeted by the police department. LAPD said that it was aware of the looting and said that it had made arrests.

“Several dispersal orders have been given,” LAPD posted on X. “Several businesses have been looted. It was requested to celebrate responsibly.”

The extent of the damage to the store was unclear. Nike confirmed that the impacted store was a Foot Locker Jumpman store. FN reached out to Foot Locker for a comment.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday evening, marking the team’s World Series title in the last five years.

A surge in retail crime, while particularly rampant in California, has plagued retail stores across the country. In January, Los Angeles police arrested a suspect in connection with a large theft of Nike products that were delivered to a location in Hawthorne, Calif. on Saturday. According to a police announcement, detectives and Nike’s global security director uncovered “thousands of pairs of stolen Nike shoes, clothing, accessories, and unique prototypes” amounting to about $5 million in value.
