Inter Milan Vs Napoli Serie A Showdown A Battle Of Coaches’ Contrasting Philosophies

Tomorrow’s Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Napoli will be a showcase for the conflicting philosophies of Simone Inzaghi and Antonio Conte.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Tomorrow evening, Inter host Napoli in Serie A. It is a match between first and second in the Serie A table.

The Nerazzurri and the Partenopei are the two most recent teams to win the Serie A title.

It is not hard to understand the stakes of tomorrow’s match, therefore.

And so for both coaches, they will be thinking intensely about their approaches for the clash.

One thing that seems clear is that neither Inter coach Simone Inzaghi nor Napoli coach Antonio Conte will be compromising too much on their principles.

Inter Vs Napoli A Showcase For Contrasting Philosophies Of Inzaghi & Conte

Inter coach Inzaghi is actually the man who replaced Conte at the Nerazzurri.

The former Lazio coach inherited a team that had been playing with a 3-5-2 shape. And that was the system he’d always used in the Italian capital.

Therefore, it was little surprise to see Inter continue with that shape under Inzaghi.

But Inzaghi is now in his fourth season as Inter coach. Conte spent just two at the helm.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri now have an identity that has been shaped far more by their current coach.

Inter showed that they can defend very effectively in a compact shape near their own goal against Arsenal on Wednesday. Just as much as they were able to under Conte.

But Inzaghi is not likely to use that approach against Napoli. He’ll aim to avoid it as much as possible.

Instead, the Inter coach will likely go with the approach that his team employed in the first twenty or so minutes against Arsenal.

Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 shape is fluid and possession-based, with the wingbacks and wide centre-backs freely getting into attacking and midfield positions.

On the other hand, Conte is not using his customary 3-5-2 system at Napoli.

The former Inter, Chelsea, and Juventus coach has switched to a 4-3-3 system to suit the players at his disposal.

But the basic ideas remain the same for Napoli. They will look to defend well and execute clear, decisive patterns of play.
