The CIF Central Section Girls Tennis Individual Tournament for singles and doubles teams will be played Nov. 15-16 at Clovis East High. Participants in this tournament advanced by qualifying at four area qualifiers last weekend.
Kern County schools all played in the South Area qualifier at Wasco High on Nov. 8-9. Advancing to this weekend’s Top 16 tournament were Stockdale’s three singles players, Abigail Eao, Jordan Li and Akshaya Behara and Bakersfield’s Kameryn Chavez.
Eao, the No. 2 seeded singles player, will open against Immanuel’s No. 15 seed Tori Matlak. Li, seeded eighth, will play No. 9 Morgan Wangner of Buchanan. Behara, who is the No. 12 seed, will face Sanger’s Haley Delgado, the fifth seed. BHS’ Chavez, who is seeded 10th, will play No. 7 Mia Parker of St. Joseph.
In doubles, teams from Liberty, Frontier, Bakersfield Christian, and Garces advanced from the South Area Tournament to vie among the section’s top 16.
Liberty’s Hayden Gehring and Kara Campoy are seeded second. They’ll face No. 15 seed Kerman’s Sydney Yep and Nella Quaresma in the first round. Garces’ Paisley Crider and Cianna Antongiovanni are seeded 14th and they’ll oppose the No. 3 team of Hayden Craft and Megan Sinaga of Clovis North. Bakersfield Christian’s Megan Bloemhof and Lani Helmreich, the 13th seed, take on No. 4 Lompoc’s Rianna Stouppe and Mia Jansen. The 12th seed from Frontier, Jenna Duron and Taylor Weiner meet Clovis East’s Jaden Patalinghug and Isabella Correa, the fifth seed.
All singles and doubles matches will be take place at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Friday. The semifinals and finals are Saturday, time to be determined.
