Vanderbilt basketball opened the Charleston Classic with a 73-71 win over Nevada on Thursday night.

Vanderbilt had a 12-0 run early in the second half to help gain a large advantage, leading by as many as 12 points, but Nevada slowly chipped away late in the game, cutting the deficit to one multiple times late in the half. But a last-ditch 3-point attempt from the Wolf Pack didn’t get off in time.

AJ Hoggard led the Commodores with 18 points and seven assists, Jason Edwards had 16 points and MJ Collins had 15.

Vanderbilt (5-0) will face Seton Hall in the second game of the tournament Friday.

The entire tournament will be held at TD Arena in Charleston, South Carolina, on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
