Missouri basketball vs. Pacific: Live blog, score updates from Mizzou Arena

Date:

Next on deck: the Pacific Tigers.

Missouri basketball hosts West Coast Conference outfit Pacific on Friday at Mizzou Arena. MU is looking to win its fourth straight game, which would match its longest winning streak from last season.

The Tigers (3-1) tied a program record in their most recent game with a 72-point win over Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 14. The 111-39 win marked the fourth time Missouri has scored 100 points in a game under head coach Dennis Gates.

Pacific is 3-3, with wins over Jessup, San Jose State and Life Pacific to start the season and three straight losses to Hawaii, Northern Arizona and Arkansas since then. The visiting Tigers fell at Arkansas 91-72 on Monday.

The Columbia Daily Tribune is live on site at Mizzou Arena for the Tigers’ fourth home game of the season. You can follow along on this page for updates on every key play and major update live from the game:

Score prediction: Missouri 82, Pacific 65

Pacific coach Dave Smart, formerly an assistant at Texas Tech and a longtime coach in his native Canada, has earned a reputation for his defensive philosophy, including an endorsement from legendary Villanova head coach Jay Wright under his biography page on the Pacific website.

Mizzou put up 111 on the scoreboard in its last outing, but Friday’s matchup should be a better barometer for the state of the current MU offense.

“They’re a really good defensive team,” Missouri guard Caleb Grill said. “With the coach they have, like Coach Gates said earlier, with his record in Canada, we’ve just got to be prepared to execute at a very high level on the offensive end and then get stops on the defensive end as well.”

Missouri injury and availability updates

Gates was asked Thursday about the availability of point guard Tony Perkins, who missed the last game. For now, the Iowa transfer’s status still appears to be questionable.

“We’re just going to play it day by day, game by game,” Gates said. He later added, “We’ve got another guy (Anthony Robinson II) that’s just as capable, that’s able to play. And when you have that, you can make decisions for the big picture, not just the short term. What I do like is what I’ve seen from (Perkins) before Mississippi Valley, and what I’ve seen from him the last two, three days that we’ve been practicing.”

The Tigers are also yet to play freshman point guard T.O. Barrett and 7-foot-5 rookie center Trent Burns this year, but Gates said he has not considered using a redshirt year on either player.
