The 11th annual World Golf Awards, the premier event recognizing excellence in golf tourism, has announced its 2024 winners during a glamorous ceremony at the Savoy Palace in Madeira. This year’s event brought together global leaders in the golf industry to celebrate the finest achievements in courses, destinations, and hospitality.

Portugal Secures Top Honors

Portugal emerged as a standout nation, earning the prestigious title of ‘World’s Best Golf Destination’. The nation’s allure was further enhanced as Terras da Comporta was crowned ‘World’s Best Golf Course’, solidifying Portugal’s reputation as a premier golfing destination.

Global Highlights: Top Venues and Achievements

Scotland’s Trump Turnberry, set against the dramatic backdrop of West Scotland’s coastline, was named ‘World’s Best Golf Hotel’, showcasing its impeccable standards in luxury and hospitality. On the other side of the globe, Mauritius celebrated a win with Heritage Golf Club – La Réserve Golf Links taking the title of ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’. Meanwhile, the high-energy LIV Golf Adelaide was recognized as ‘World’s Best Golf Event of the Year’, reflecting its growing influence in the sport.

Madeira’s Moment in the Spotlight

Hosting this year’s ceremony, Madeira demonstrated its rising prominence in the golf tourism sector. The region earned accolades for its efforts, securing the title of ‘World’s Best Emerging Golf Destination’. Additionally, Madeira’s courses received individual honors, with Palheiro Golf winning ‘World’s Best Panoramic Clubhouse’, and Club de Golfe Santo Da Serra achieving double recognition for ‘World’s Best Par 3 Hole’ and ‘World’s Best Sustainable Water Capture Course System’.

Chris Frost, Managing Director of World Golf Awards, praised Madeira’s hosting of the event, calling it “a magnificent gathering of the global golf tourism industry.” He extended congratulations to the winners and emphasized the region’s unique contribution to the sport.

Eduardo Jesus, Regional Secretary for Economy, Tourism, and Culture, highlighted Madeira’s commitment to becoming a global golfing hub.
