Date:

An Abilene man was killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday in Eastland County, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety media release.

Jeffrey Wirt Newman, 72, was thrown from his motorcycle in a one-vehicle crash near Eastland on Thursday afternoon, according to the Friday media release.

The DPS preliminary investigation found that Newman was traveling north on State Highway 6, driving a 2017 Kawasaki Concours 14.

A Burkburnett man was killed in a one vehicle accident late Monday.

He hit a construction barrel on the shoulder of the road .4 miles south of Eastland, and he was ejected from the motorcycle and died, according to the DPS. He was wearing a helmet.

Eastland County Justice of the Peace Jon Glenn pronounced Newman dead at 4:19 p.m. Thursday.

Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Michael N. West of Eastland investigated the crash. He was assisted by another trooper and a THP sergeant, also from Eastland. The Eastland Police Department and Eastland County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
