Live blog, score updates as Missouri basketball plays Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday

Date:

For the second time in three days, the Tigers are taking the court at Mizzou Arena.

Missouri basketball is making a quick turn to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon in Columbia.

Mizzou (4-1) has won four straight games since falling at Memphis in its season-opener. The Tigers defeated Pacific 91-56 on Friday, one game after tying a program-best 72-point win over Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 14.

If Mizzou wins Sunday, it will match its longest winning streak since winning five straight games between Feb. 21-March 10 in 2023.

UAPB (1-5) is tabbed as the No. 362 team out of a possible 364 Division-I outfits on the basketball analytics website KenPom’s rankings. Mizzou beat the Golden Lions in the season-opener last season, running out to a 101-79 win.

The Columbia Daily Tribune is live on site at Mizzou Arena for the Tigers’ sixth game of the season. You can follow along on this page for updates on every key play and major update live from the game:

Missouri vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff prediction

Missouri 108, UAPB 67

It’s been all systems go on offense for Missouri in the past couple games against overmatched opponents. There are no signs UAPB will be able to do anything to slow that down. So far this season, the Golden Lions have allowed 109 points to Cincinnati; 103 points to Tulsa; and 98 points to Texas Tech.

Missouri injury and availability updates

Tony Perkins, per a team spokesperson on Friday, is expected to return Sunday after missing the Tigers’ past two games.

“We’re just going to play it day by day, game by game,” Gates said Thursday.

Junior forward Aidan Shaw also didn’t play Friday against Pacific in what was seemingly a coaches decision, but, like Perkins, Shaw is expected to return Sunday. Here is Gates’ full answer when asked about the forward’s absence.

“You’ve got to understand this: My decision is to always protect my players,” the Missouri coach said. “Once I saw how the scout was and how we were defended, I couldn’t afford to have both Aidan Shaw and Mark Mitchell and Josh Gray in the game, although Josh Gray hit a 3, although Mark Mitchell hit a 3, they condensed and packed it in. So what I had to do is make another decision, an executive decision. We have three games in six days. Aidan Shaw will play the next game, but it gives you a glimpse of how deep our team is — but our guys are unselfish.

“Aidan Shaw wasn’t pouting. Aidan Shaw was cheering for his teammates. But everybody looks at the schedule and they can calculate, OK, yeah, three games in six days, we’ve got to be prepared, and our depth will allow us to get through certain situations like that. So, I’m just thankful for our coaching staff, our players for always being unselfish the way that they have been.”
