Indiana women’s basketball guard Sydney Parrish suffers injury against Baylor

Date:

Indiana women’s basketball guard Sydney Parrish suffered a leg injury in the second quarter of a 73-65 win over Baylor in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Sunday afternoon.

She couldn’t put any weight on her left leg as the training staff helped her back to the locker room. The injury came with IU leading 33-23 with 5:31 left in the half and she didn’t return.

Indiana coach Teri Moren didn’t have an update on the extent of injury after the game. Moren told reporters that Parrish will “need some imaging” and wasn’t expecting her to play in the championship game of the event on Monday.

“We’re gonna protect her, we still got a lot of season left,” Moren said.

Parrish went for a rebound under the basket and got rolled up by Kyla Abraham, who was called for a foul. Abraham’s full weight landed on Parrish’s leg as they both fell to the floor.

The fifth-year senior came into the game averaging 10.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

The Hoosiers (3-2; 0-0 Big Ten) got off to a hot start by taking an early 25-10 lead over Baylor, but cooled down considerably to close out the half. Baylor cut the lead to 37-33 with a 7-0 lead at the end of the second quarter.

It was a physical first half with each team committing 13 personal fouls.
