Sunday was sloppy to start. Washington State led 19-18 after the first quarter and was shooting 61.5% from the field and 60% from 3-point range.
That wouldn’t continue.
After the first quarter, Iowa locked Washington State up. Seriously, it was a defensive clinic.
Following Jenna Villa’s 3-pointer with :38 remaining in the opening quarter, Iowa allowed just nine Washington State points until Villa hit another trey with 6:35 remaining.
By day’s end, Washington State shot just 27.4% from the field and 23.3% from 3-point range. The Hawkeyes forced 20 WSU turnovers and outrebounded the Cougars, 53-37.
