The PGA Tour announced its nominees for the Jack Nicklaus Award for Player of the Year on Monday, with Scheffler, Schauffele and Rory McIlroy the candidates for consideration in a vote of the Tour membership.
The Tour also released the nominees for the Arnold Palmer Award, for the Rookie of the Year, Nick Dunlap, Max Greyserman, Jake Knapp and Matthieu Pavon.
Voting will be open until Dec. 4 at 5 p.m., with the winners announced by the end of the year.
Will PGA Tour players value two majors over seven victories?
The issue is whether players will lean towards Schauffele’s two majors over Scheffler’s one, plus The Players (becoming the first to win two in a row at the Stadium Course), the FedEx Cup and seven victories in all. Schauffele’s PGA and Open titles were his only two victories in the 2024 season.
Scheffler, who also won the Olympic Gold Medal, is going for a Player of the Year three-peat, which be the first time since Tiger Woods won from 2005-2007. Woods also won five in a row from 1999-2003.
McIlroy has won three Player of the Year awards but is likely to be the odd man out. He won twice on the PGA Tour but is still seeking his first major title since he won his fourth in the 2014 PGA.
Nick Dunlap favored to win rookie award
Dunlap became the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour in 33 years when he captured the American Express. He later won the Barracuda Championship, becoming the first player in history to win Tour events as an amateur and a professional in the same season.
Knapp won the Mexico Open and Pavon the Farmers Insurance Open. Greyserman had three second-place finishes,
