Lyon strikers Gift Orban (22) and Wilfried Zaha (32) have been dropped from Pierre Sage’s squad for Les Gones‘ Europa League away clash against Qarabağ this Thursday at 6:45pm CET. Lyon are currently ninth in the Europa League standings after a two-game winless streak. The Ligue 1 side was denied a crucial away win at Hoffenheim by conceding an injury-time equalizer. Already short of playing time in Ligue 1, Orban and Zaha have not boarded today’s plane for Lyon’s long-haul flight to Azerbaïjan.
With Lyon embroiled in financial struggles – as shown by the DNCG’s ruling handing the Ligue 1 side a transfer ban and a provisional Ligue 2 relegation – Orban is not expected to be retained should the right offer come along. As for Zaha, it remains to be seen whether his loan from Süper Lig side Galatasaray will be cut short. Sage already confirmed that he intends to trim down his squad for the winter transfer window.
