The Tigers roared into the semis with an 83-81 win over No. 5 Iowa State on Monday night, which marked their second top-5 win of the season. Auburn leaned on a balanced scoring effort with five-double-digit scorers that helped spark a comeback from a 49-33 halftime deficit. Johni Broome grabbed an offensive rebound and scored the winning points on a putback just before the buzzer sounded to lift the Tigers to victory.
North Carolina also had to mount a comeback in the Maui quarterfinal round, storming back from 21 down to defeat Dayton (92-90) behind 30 points from guard RJ Davis. The Tar Heels have now won three straight since a 92-89 road loss to No. 1 Kansas in their second game of the season.
