Slot admits Chiesa still ‘not in the squad yet’ at Liverpool

Arne Slot has revealed that Italy’s Federico Chiesa is still ‘not in the squad yet’ three months on from his transfer from Juventus, as the former Bianconeri forward continues to struggle with fitness issues.

Chiesa joined Liverpool towards the end of the summer transfer window in a €15m transfer away from Juventus.

The EURO 2020 winner had been told that he would not be part of Thiago Motta’s plans for the 2024-25 season, and so spent most of the summer training individually at Continassa.

Chiesa ‘still not in the squad’ at Liverpool

Though Liverpool were able to give him an escape route, Chiesa has only managed to feature for 78 minutes in the 2024-25 season so far, across three separate appearances in the Premier League, EFL Cup and Champions League.

Almost exactly three months on from his Liverpool transfer, head coach Arne Slot has confirmed that Chies is still only taking part in ‘one or two parts’ of the first team training sessions.

“Federico is not in the squad yet. He is training with us, not the whole session, but mostly one or two parts of the session,” the Liverpool coach said in his pre-Real Madrid press conference.
