HIGH BRIDGE – A crossing guard was struck and killed Wednesday by a vehicle at the intersection of County Route 513 and Larson Avenue a block from High Bridge Elementary School.
Robert Bork, 75, a borough resident, was struck by a vehicle travelling south on Route 513 at about 12:10 p.m. as schools had early dismissal on the day before Thanksgiving, according to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
Bork was flown by helicopter to Morristown Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Bork had been a crossing guard for the police department for six years. He had previously been employed by the Marine Law Enforcement Bureau of the State Police and the New Jersey State Park Police, according to his Linkedin profile.
Responding to the scene were the High Bridge Police Department, High Bridge Fire Department, Annandale Fire Department, South Branch Emergency Services, and members of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Forensic Analysis Collision Team (F.A.C.T.)
The crash remains under investigation by members of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’sOffice’s F.A.C.T. and the High Bridge Police Department.
Authorities have not released the name of the driver whose vehicle struck Bork.
No other injuries have been reported by the Prosecutor’s Office.
No summonses have been issued at this time.
