Iga Swiatek, the women’s world No 2 tennis player, has received a one-month ban after testing positive for a banned substance.

The four-time French Open champion, 23, tested positive for trimetazidine, a drug primarily used to prevent heart attacks.

“The player was provisionally suspended from September 22 until October 4, missing three tournaments, which counts towards the sanction, leaving eight days remaining,” the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said in a statement.

Swiatek won her fourth French Open earlier this year. She also won the US Open in 2022.
