Rain will linger in New Jersey for much of Thanksgiving day. See how much is expected

Date:

Wet weather and cool temperatures are expected for much of New Jersey for Thanksgiving this year.

According to the National Weather Service, the rain that has settled over the metropolitan region is expected to linger until late Thursday afternoon before moving out from west to east around 5 p.m.

Overall, less than an inch of rain is expected.

While the precipitation may be ending, this Thanksgiving weekend will be a “typical brisk, blustery late fall weekend” with chilly temperatures into next week.

Highs in the mid to upper 40s tomorrow are considered seasonable but lows heading into the 20s later this weekend and early next week will be anywhere from five to 10 degrees below average, according to the National Weather Service.

In other years, wind has been more of an issue than precipitation or temperatures, said Bob Ziff of the North Jersey Weather Observers.

Ziff noted that this is the first significant precipitation on Thanksgiving since half an inch of rain fell in Bergenfield in 2020.

The rain pattern being seen in the region now will move up to New England, creating chilly temperatures here and a chance for serious snow in the lake regions of western New York, which could impact holiday travel return, Ziff said.
