Chelsea extend perfect Conference League start with Heidenheim win

Chelsea’s perfect start to the Conference League continued with a 2-0 win over Heidenheim.

Scorers: Nkunku 51′, Mudryk 86′

Sent off: Casadei

Christopher Nkunku broke the deadlock early in the second half at the Voith-Arena with a cool finish from Jadon Sancho’s cross for his 11th goal of the season.

The Blues were still indebted to Filip Jörgensen’s goalkeeping in staying ahead as he made a string of saves, the best to deny Léo Scienza from close range.

Heideinheim continued to push for a leveller and appeared to have sealed it through Max Breunig’s diving header before the flag was raised for offside.

The Bundesliga newcomers were dealt a hammer blow by Mykhailo Mudrky sweeping home in the closing stages after being teed up by Sancho.

Breunig attempted to instigate an instant reducer for the hosts but was again found to have strayed offside in the build-up.

But Enzo Maresca’s side were dealt a setback deep in added time when Cesare Casadei was sent off for a second bookable offence.
