Golfweek‘s Eamon Lynch broke the news several weeks ago, but now it’s official.
Tournament organizers announced Monday that The Showdown will pit Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler against Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
It’s unofficially a PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf battle royale and that’s what adds a little spice to this made-for-TV event.

When is it and where is it?
The Showdown is set for Tuesday, Dec 17, in Las Vegas at Shadow Creek Golf Course, the No. 1-ranked public-access golf course in Nevada. The TV coverage starts at 6 p.m. ET, which is 4 p.m. Vegas time.
Shadow Creek held the very first Match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
How can I watch The Showdown?
The event will be carried live on TNT as well as TBS, truTV and the B/R Sports Add-On on Max. Event organizers also reported that “extensive highlights and content will also be available via Bleacher Report’s digital and social platforms.”
What is the format?
Unlike some previous Match events, which were 12 holes, The Showdown is scheduled for 18 holes. The course will divided into three six-hole segments: best ball for the first six, alternate shot for the middle six and singles over the closing six holes.
Who are the TV announcers?
If it’s a made-for-TV golf event, you know Charles Barkley is going to be involved. He’s been a participant and an announcer for previous Match events on TV.
He’ll be joined by his TNT on-air co-hort Ernie Johnson as well as Trevor Immelman and David Feherty. Immelman is, of course, one of the main TV analysts for PGA Tour coverage while Feherty is one of the lead LIV Golf TV announcers.
In addition, LIV Golf’s Bubba Watson will be an on-course correspondent along with Lauren Jbara.
Is it true the winners will be paid in crypto?
The official name of the upcoming event is the Crypto.com Showdown and the winners will indeed receive a multimillion-dollar prize in CRO Cronos, which is the native token of Crypto.com. This marks the first instance of a major sports competition offering a prize purse entirely in cryptocurrency.
Who’s behind The Showdown?
As first reported by Golfweek‘s Eamon Lynch, The Showdown was created by Bryan Zuriff’s BZ Entertainment and EverWonder Studio. Zuriff was previously involved in The Match, a series of TV matches that launched in 2018 and featuring McIlroy, DeChambeau and Koepka. EverWonder Studio was founded last year by former Sports Illustrated executive Ian Orefice and backed by Jeff Zucker’s RedBird IMI.
