‘Completely false’ – PSG vehemently deny club sale reports

On Wednesday, L’Équipe reported that sources close to the Emir of Qatar indicated that the owner of Paris Saint-Germain, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, may be open to selling the club in the event of a good offer.

The report added that it didn’t mean that QSI were looking to sell PSG, but rather that they were open to the possibility amid a fading interest in the wake of the 2022 World Cup, held in Qatar. It is reported that in the wake of that tournament, there is an increasing sense of detachment to the Ligue 1 giants, who have dominated domestically since QSI’s purchase back in 2011.

However, in response to the report, a spokesperson from PSG, speaking to Ben Jacobshas vehemently refuted the suggestions that they would be willing to sell, pointing to their recent significant investments.

“This is completely false, the same newspaper writes the same complete rubbish week and week again,” began the statement, specifically referring to L’Équipe’s piece.

“The shareholders have just spent €350m on Poissy, with further major expansions at Campus just announced, and are looking to invest hundreds of millions on a new stadium, while increasing our investments across football, sports and entertainment, but apparently we are looking to sell,” concluded the statement as QSI looked to publically underline their continued commitment to PSG.
