Willowbrook Golf Course sold — and staying in local hands

Date:

Willowbrook Golf Course & Restaurant on Lake Avenue has been purchased by Lockport natives who plan to add features at the course and run the restaurant year-round.

Matt Martin is the managing partner of newly formed Willowbrook Golf Course LLC. He and his brother CJ Martin are the new owners. The sale by longtime owner FBH Properties Inc., a group of 39 shareholders, was closed earlier this week and was announced Friday.

The Martin brothers, who also own and are pursuing redevelopment of the old Kendzie’s Lanes property on West Main Street and the former YMCA site on East Avenue, grew up on Heather Drive a short distance from Willowbrook. Matt Martin got his first job there, when he was 15.

“As soon as (Willowbrook) became available, we were interested,” Martin said. “The golf course is very well run, and we’re looking forward to taking it to the next level.”

Martin said he expects to add one or more golf simulators — that’s a virtual golf course for indoor / winter play — and renovate and expand the restaurant.

The popular, seasonal restaurant was closed only a few days ago, according to Martin. It will be reopened soon and operated year-round, he said.
